Barnoldswick History Society
(affiliated to the Lancashire Local History Society)
Church Street
The Society was founded in 1975, shortly after the change in Local Government when
Barnoldswick, for centuries a part of the West Riding of Yorkshire, became for
administrative purposes incorporated into Lancashire.

The aim of the fledgling Society was to ensure that the history and heritage of the town
should not be forgotten. That still continues to be the Society's principle aim today.
In the year 2000 the Society celebrated its 25th Anniversary by compiling a book of
photographs entitled "Barnoldswick - A Century of Change", a few copies of which are
still available for anyone wishing to know more about the community.

The Honorary President of the Society is Mrs Dorothy Carthy, the only founder member
still active within the group. From September to April meetings are held in the town
library on the last Thursday of each month, with additional excursions arranged during
Spring and Summer. Further information may be obtained by contacting us.
