October meeting 07

The speaker at our October meeting was Mrs Sarah Greenwood of Colne,
who gave a talk on "Postal History" from 1840 onwards. Shw showed how
1840 was a key date in the developments of an efficient postal system, with the
introduction of stamps, organised deliveries and, soom afterwards, the arrival
of piller boxes and telegrams. Her talk was illustrated with slides of contempory
correspondence from her own collection.
